Services: Capital Area Community Services (CACS) provides information and referral, emergency services on a temporary basis, clothing, food, utility assistance, homeless services, migrant services and advocacy.

Eligibility: Low income residents of the tri-county area.

Cost: None. Donations accepted.

Services: Provides a safety net of goods and services. Personal needs, small household needs, large women's clothing, Thanksgiving food baskets, free furniture, Quality Living Budget counseling and much more. Has a base of mobilized, church volunteers and utilizes community agencies. Tries to fulfull any unmet needs.

Eligibility: Any person in need.

Cost: Free of charge. Donations welcomed.

Services: Good used and new clothing, bedding, food orders on emergency basis to those in need because of a disaster or personal crisis (e.g. victims of fire, flood, tornado, etc.). Loan closet of hospital equipment. Also offers health education classes and cooking schools on occasion.

Eligibility: Persons in need. Need referral from Food Bank for food and from Capital Area Community Services, etc. for clothing, bedding, etc.

Cost: None.


CRISTO REY SENIOR CITIZENS PROGRAM

Services: Provides a variety of services to senior citizens including those who only speak Spanish. These services include Information and Referral on topics such as Social Security, SSI, Medicaid, Medicare, Food Stamps, housing, health programs, property tax assistance and utility assistance. Emergency prescription help may be available depending on funding. Outreach service is provided to Spanish speaking senior citizens to inform them of services and programs available. The program also provides advocacy on behalf of senior citizens to insure that they are receiving benefits they are entitled to. Also provides other activities such as meals, music, arts and crafts, educational classes (i.e. English as a second language). Transportation is provided to medical appointments, Social Services, Nutrition program and grocery shopping. Bilingual staff available.

Eligibility: Spanish Speaking senior citizens age 60 and over.

Cost: None. Donations accepted.

Services:  Adult and Senior Respite and In-Home Services specializing in special needs, aging, and Alzheimer's disease. Some services offered include: daily living skills, personal care, light housekeeping, medication reminders, transportation, cooking and diet, and other home and community tasks.

Eligibility:  People of all ages with special needs, disabilities or requiring specialized care.

Cost:  Private pay, Medicaid Waiver.

Services: Helps with cost of eye exams, eyeglasses and possibly hearing aids. Also sponsors various community projects. This office makes referrals to local Lions Clubs.

Services: Provides information and referral and offers some direct services such as tax hardship representation and tax assistance, holiday food baskets, last resort emergency needs funds. Deals with any problem. Accessible on bus line. Appointments are available on a walk-in basis.

Eligibility: Meridian Township residents. Any age group.

Services: Emergency food, transportation, assistance with rent, mortgage and security deposits, utilities, personal needs, baby needs, sleeping bags and other assistance. Community Kitchen serves lunch at noon on Mondays and Fridays. Free produce distribution every Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. on a first come, first served basis. Clinton county produce distribution is every Thursday at 1:00 p.m.

Eligibility: Anyone. Need to have a picture ID (driver's license) and Social Security number and the social security numbers of other adults living in the home.

Cost: None.

Services:  Provides financial support to senior citizens and individuals with disabilities who do not qualify for any other existing agency support. Funding will be available for prescriptions, hearing aids, homemaker service, special equipment, dental work, eyeglasses and more. All money will be paid directly to the company providing the service of supplies to the client.

Cost:  None but must meet income/asset limits. Maximum income limits not rigid but limit is approximately $1500 per month for one person and $2500 for two. Asset limit is $4000 for one person and $8000 for two. To qualify income and assets must be verified.

Services: Thrift stores offers clothing & household items for sale. Accepts good, usable dontations during open hours. If you prefer to have donations picked up please call the store to arrange. For an appointment with the referral office you must have a decision letter from Dep't of Human Services (DHS) & also have contacted Salvation Army & Capital Area Community Services (CACS) first.

Cost: None with approved referral, minimal charge otherwise.

Service: A telephone reassurance service staffed by volunteers for the sick, elderly, and shut-ins who need a daily check on their well-being. Must have 2 neighbors/family that have a house key that can check on you if we can't reach you & if they aren't available a police officer will be sent.
