Services:
The Michigan Office of Services to the Aging (OSA), located within
the Michigan Department of Community Health, is the state administrative
agency for services to the elderly. OSA's mission is to "promote
independence through advocacy, leadership and innovation in policies,
programs and services." This state agency administers federal
and state funding for local programs that offer a variety of services
for older adults such as meals, legal aid, transportation, health
promotion, household chores, personal care and adult day care. OSA
also advises the state legislature and governor on issues and policies
important to older Michiganians. It does not provide direct
services to senior citizens. Those telephoning this agency for assistance
on local services may expect to be referred to the appropriate Area
Agency on Aging.
