Services:
Primary focus of the Older Adult Community Outreach Program is to
provide case management services to older adults who experience
a serious and/or persistent mental illness in order to assist them
in maintaining and improving their functioning in their homes and
in the community. In addition to case management services, mental
health professionals provide counseling to older adults who are
homebound and who experience depression, anxiety, obsessive or compulsive
thinking.
Eligibility:
Case management candidates must be 55 years of age or older, live
in the greater Lansing area and have a diagnosis of a serious or
persistent illness.
Cost:
None.
OBRA
Program: Offers mental health services to persons in nursing
homes who are coping with a mental illness or a developmental disability.
For referrals call 346-8318.
Older
Adult Day Treatment Program: This program offers a variety of
therapeutic activities on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday to older adults
who suffer from a serious and/or persistent mental illness. The
program is operated from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and include a free
lunch for participants. Must be 55 years or older, live in the greater
Lansing area and have a diagnosis of a serious and persistent mental
illness.
Substance
Abuse Prevention and Treatment Program: Direct treatment and
support is provided to older adults 55 and older, and those close
to them for medication and alcohol misuse/abuse. A support group
called Young at Heart meets regularly. Call 346-8265. Prevention/Education
services focus on wise drug use and how to enjoy and maintain healthy
aging. In-services and workshops are provided to senior groups and
professionals who work with older adults.
Community
Services for the Developmentally Disabled (CSDD): For
information call the Access Center at 346-8318 or 1-888-800-1559
(toll free). Appointments arranged within 14 days. Children and
adults must meet developmental disability as defined by Michigan
Mental Health Code.

Intensive short-term stay in the inpatient unit. All patients are
admitted to the program by licensed psychiatrists. During their
stay, patients will be involved in individual, group, family and
activity therapy.
Eligibility:
Adults age 60 and older with mental health needs.
Cost:
Covered in whole or in part by insurance such as Blue Cross, HMO,
Medicare, Medicaid, CHAMPUS and others. Exact coverage may vary
from plan to plan.

Services:
Geriatric Psychiatry Unit offers a short-term inpatient program
for older adults who have experienced an acute change in mental
status, behavior or personality requiring psychiatric care. The
Geriatric Psychiatry Program offers a holistic approach to health,
giving attention to medical, psychological and social factors. Each
patient's treatment begins with an expert multi-disciplinary assessment
performed by a team which then creates a master plan of treatment
tailored to the individual patient's needs. The teams include psychiatrists,
chaplains and geriatric medical specialists.
Eligibility:
Adults 60 years of age or older with need for inpatient psychiatric
treatment.
Cost:
Program costs are covered by most insurance programs.
