Services:
The Long Term Care Ombudsman program provides information about
how to look for long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes,
homes for the aged, adult foster care and assisted living. The program
also provides information and assistance for residents in long-term
care facilities to help with problem solving and addressing complaints.
In addition to community education, publications are available that
cover a range of issues including choosing a long-term care facility,
resident rights, Medicare, Medicaid and advanced directives.
The Elder Abuse Prevention Education Program provides
educational in-services and trainings to individuals within the
aging network and staff in long-term care facilities. These presentations
provide information on prevention as well as intervention strategies
for combative residents. Additionally the program participates in
coordinated, comprehensive approaches to prevention with Adult Protective
Services, the ombudsman program, legal assistance programs, law
enforcement, TRIAD programs and the Office of Services to the Aging's
S.A.F.E. (Safe from Abuse, Fraud and Exploitation) program. Contact

When a debt repayment program is needed, fees are based on ability
to pay. Must have income of some kind /more than owed on a monthly

When a senior calls to talk with a hotline lawyer, there will be
no charge. Donations are welcome. If, after talking to the hotline
lawyer, the caller wants more legal representation, a number of
options are available depending on the service rendered and the
senior's financial circumstances.

MPRO is a private, non-profit agency of doctors and nurses responsible
for reviewing the hospital care given to Medicare Part A patients
in Michigan. Contracts with the federal government to help assure
you receive appropriate care. MPRO can conduct appeals at a patient's

video program are also available.

Cooley Law School students who are supervised by licensed attorneys
staff the clinic. Home visits can be arranged when necessary. Staff
is available for public presentations to senior groups and organizations
on substantive legal topics and issues. Spanish speaking staff is
also available.
