FOSTER CARE HOMES (AFC)
Adult
Foster Care Homes provide room and board as well as supervision
and minimal personal care to persons over the age of 18. The State
of Michigan licenses all AFC homes. Each AFC is different and it
is wise to investigate the ones you are interested in. Listings
of AFC homes can be obtained through your local county Department
of Human Services, Bureau of Regulatory Service (517) 373-3598.

Funding available through the Department of Housing & Urban
Development (HUD), Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and
HOME programs. Purpose is to provide low and moderate-income city
residents to upgrade their housing conditions. The City has developed
the following programs: Single Family Rehabilitation Program; Housing
Rehabilitation for Targeted Areas; Citywide Emergency Assistance;
Weatherization; HOME Rehabilitation and Single Family Historic Preservation.

Services:
A case management program for homeless people. Helps clients get
& keep permanent housing or permanent supportive housing. Goal
is to help homeless individuals & families overcome the problems
that prevent them from getting and staying in permanent housing.
Case management may be provided for up to 2 years; or up to 6 months
after the client moves into permanent housing. Follow-up services
are available.
Eligibility:
Any agency can refer a client. A case manager will contact you to
set up time to meet the client. Current clients must be homeless,
living in a car, on the street, in a shelter or in transitional
housing.

Services:
A volunteer organization that builds homes for low-income families
who don't qualify for other non-conventional mortgages. Offers a
fix-up program for those who cannot afford to hire services. Services
that require a license, such as plumbing, electrical or roofing
not included. Builds handicap ramps, and does other small fix-up
jobs. Re Store is a resale shop that sells
new & used home improvement materials at deeply discounted prices.
Pilot program on Lansing westside (target neighborhood)
designed to improve housing conditions for local homeowners who
can't afford costly repairs like replacing furnace, windows, updating
electrical system. Allows qualified individuals to borrow up to
$5,000 interest free. Part of Habitats commitment to Vision 2020,
a multi-agency initiative to eliminate substandard housing.

Any person in need.
Cost:
Donations accepted. The homeowner must pay for building materials.

Mission is to assist low or moderate income people, including those
with disabilities, to obtain safe and affordable hosing and provide
an environment that encourages & supports the attainment of
economic self-sufficiency. Offers housing directory, direct financial
assistance available to those who qualify, Section 8 voucher program,
Follow-up Case Management Program & IDA program. The IDA program
will give $3000 down payment toward purchase of a home if client's
save $1000 of their own & families must have at least 1 child
under age 18, living in household & meet income guidelines.
Two person limit=$23,880yr/3=$30,040. For each additional add $6,160.
Must attend 10 hours of financial literacy education

Purpose:
The
504 Housing Repair program provides loans and grants to repair,
improve, or modernize dwellings or to remove health and safety hazards.
Eligibility:
Homeowner-occupants must have very low incomes, defined
as below 50% of the area median income. Loans of up to $20,000 are
available. Loans are for up to 20 years at 1% interest. A real estate
mortgage and titile services are required for loans of $7,500 or
more.
