Helpline available 24 hours/7 days week Services: Toll-free 24/7 help line provides callers with information about Alzheimer's disease and caregiving concerns, provides emotional support and makes referrals to local agencies and educational programs. Educational programs are targeted to caregivers, health care providers, and people with Alzheimer's disease and the general public. Caregiver Support Groups, Memory Loss Support and Education groups are available in many areas. See support groups for local groups meeting in your area. The Chapter's Public Policy Committee and State Advocate work at the local, state and national level on public policy changes. Chapter staff is also available to speak to community and civic groups on Alzheimer's disease. Lending Library offers free borrowing privileges to those interested in learning more about Alzheimer's disease. Offers a wide variety books and videos on the disease, caregiving, etc. Loan period is four weeks for books and one week for videos. Safe Return- Nationwide identification, support & registration program that provides assistance when an individual with Alzheimer's or related dementia becomes lost locally or far from home. If a registrant is missing, Safe Return can fax information & photo to local law enforcement departments. Available 24 hours a day. $40 registration fee (scholarships available) provides engraved identification necklace or bracelet & iron on clothing labels. Caregiver checklist & other items available for an additional $5.00. Services: Offers a variety of support programs to help meet the needs of cancer patients and their families. Equipment loans for items such as hospital beds, bath benches, wheelchairs, commodes and van transportation to and from treatments and medical appointments are available. The FYI Resource Center located at Abbey Road has a lending library of books, videos, and brochures dealing with cancer related issues as well a computer available for patients to access to information. Services: Walking clubs meet in numerous pedestrian malls. FOUNDATION Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Services: Offers printed materials about arthritis and its treatment; a lending library of books and video tapes, a physician referral list, displays of literature and arthritis programs that can be used for open houses and health fairs. Trained speakers are available to make presentations to the groups and organizations and mutual support groups meet monthly to provide an opportunity for arthritis patients and their families to share problems and concerns. Self-help courses are available to give arthritis patients and those who care for them the knowledge and skills they need for on going care. The Arthritis Aquatics program, a recreational water exercise program uses local pool facilities, and PACE (People with Arthritis Can Exercise) is a special program that uses gentle activities to help increase joint flexibility and range of motion. The Foundation also has a quarterly newsletter and the Arthritis Helpline available during business hours for those needing information or answers to questions. Eligibility: No restrictions. Camperships available for accredited day and residential camps on a limited basis as well as limited financial assistance in obtaining medical equipment. Services: Wellness Center offers a wide range of fitness classes (1 senior specific), fitness equipment,& services available with membership or as daily guest. Amenities include whirlpool, towel service, shower supplies, daily locker use. Additional services, which are available to members and non-members (for a fee) include: therapeutic massage, yoga & personal training. Rehabilation Services includes inpatient and outpatient services, Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapy and Sports Medicine. These require a written or telephone referral by the patient's physician. Fees: $36 per 6 week class/Non-members or $8.00 walk-in guest pass.
